• AUSTIN, Texas (August 20, 2013) – Charles Kim of Cedar Park fired a final round 4-under-par 67 to win the fifth annual George Hannon Junior Invitational at UT Golf Club. It was Kim’s second win this year (Bluebonnet Championship). Julia Beck of Austin successfully defended her title in the Girls 12-18 division while Cole Hammer of Houston won his fifth Boys 14 & Under title of the year.  Conducted by the Legends Junior Tour, the George Hannon Junior Invitational was conceived in 2009 as a way to honor the legacy of George “Coach” Hannon. Hannon won two national championships while at the University of Texas and coached notable professionals Ben Crenshaw and Tom Kite. Now one of five ‘Majors’ on the Legends Junior Tour schedule, the Championship is worth double Player of the Year points that will be awarded to the top 50% of each division.  Kim, 15, began the day three shots behind first-round leader Kyle Hogan but his steady putter and solid ball striking led to a bogey-free round. Playing in the penultimate group, Kim said he didn’t know how he stood until he got to the 17th hole. “I didn’t know I was in the lead until 17 because that’s when a lot of people came out to take pictures.” Kim’s two-day total of 136 was two shots better than Chandler Phillips of Huntsville. With the win, Kim earned 2000 Player of the Year points and fully exempt status with the American Junior Golf Association. – See more at: http://www.tljt.org/2013-Hannon-Rd2-Recap.news#sthash.2MDL8r2v.dpuf
