The Barton Creek Junior Academy Golf Program is an innovative approach toward junior golf improvement. Based on the principles of Long-Term Athletic Development (LTAD), we believe using physical and mental activities that are appropriate to a child is truly the best way to go about developing a young athlete. These activities are challenging yet rewarding. Young athletes will gain strength, kinesthetic awareness, speed, agility, balance and confidence all traits found in today`s very best athletes. Most importantly they will learn golf, have fun, and will stay active in the process!
We have a great track record of helping juniors excel in golf. Our Academy staff combines with more than 75 years of teaching experience.
Some accomplishments of our juniors from the Barton Creek Golf Academy:
(Ages 6-8)
We cover all areas of the game with these young junior golfers. We incorporate instruction in all areas of the game such as (technique work, on-course instruction, rules, and etiquette). We also make sure that the juniors are learning and developing the “FMS” (Fundamental Movement Skills). Fundamental Movement Skills plus Fundamental Sports Skills equals Physical Literacy! The junior golfers will also have the opportunity to compete in some Team matches through the spring and summer months.
Dr. Vern Seefeldt (1980) Proposed that children must complete a certain level of competency in FMS( Fundamental Movement Skills) if they are to break through a hypothetical proficiency barrier and successfully engage in sport specific skills later in life. Gabbard (2000), Haywood & Getchell (2001); Payne & Isaacs (2002)
Fundamental Movement Skills:
1. Locomotive Skills: Running, Jumping, Dodging, Skipping, Hopping, Bounding, Sprinting
2. Stability Skills (ABC’s of Athleticism): Agility, Balance, Coordination, speed, Change of Direction
3. Manipulative / Object Control Skills: Throw, Kick, Strike, Catch, Dribble
4. Awareness: Space Awareness, Kinesthetic Awareness, Body Awareness, Rules

Don`t force your kids into sports. I never was. To this day, my dad has never asked me to go play golf. I ask him. It`s the child`s desire to play that matters, not the parent`s desire to have the child play. Fun. Keep it fun. – Tiger Woods
The juniors in the age group will be also taken through the S.M.A.S.H. Zone. We are continuing to develop the golf specific skills, on course instruction, as well as physical strength and functional movements. The junior golfers will also have the opportunity to compete in some Team matches through the spring and summer months.

The first thing I learned was to swing hard and never mind where the ball went. That is what Arnold Palmer was taught too, and I think it is the right way. – Jack Nicklaus
This Train to Play phase is when we start honing in on the junior’s skill set more aggressively as well as on course time. We start incorporating more technology teaching when necessary, such as video and 3 -D Motion Analysis so the junior can train with bio feedback to see and better understand the correct motions. These are critical years that these junior golfers are increasing their speed and strength. Juniors this age are probably going through a growth spurt, so it is important these juniors are still working on the S.M.A.S.H. zone as well. The junior golfers will also have the opportunity to compete in some Team matches through the spring and summer months.

This program is for ages 12-17 and is a program for the more experienced junior golfer who has aspirations to play collegiate golf. The junior must have tournament experience and have a scoring average under 85 for 18 holes. We focus on technique, skill training, practice plans, goal setting, golf fitness as well as the mental strategies of scoring. On day 1 we do assessments and incorporate the use of Academy technologies such a Video, Trackman Radar, SAM Putt Lab, and TPI Fitness screening to help provide a road map of improvement. Prior to attending we require statistical data from each junior from five of their previous tournament rounds (such as fairways hit, GIR, putts per round, penalty shots, scrambling, etc.). This also helps us customize a plan for the junior. We also incorporate on course instruction on our championship courses at Barton Creek. Each student receives a Barton Creek Golf Academy tote bag, notebook, lunch, snacks and refreshments. Classes run form 8:30-2:30 each day.
